My Story

Paris Jean Dooley
2003 to 2006
aged: 3
From: Falkirk

Paris Jean Dooley born on the 1 September 2003 at Stirling royal infirmary was the proud daughter of Sharon Reid and Patrick Dooley.

Paris touched many hearts from the first day she was born for many different reasons but unfortunately most notably for the way she thought so hard with a illness that was to be the cause of her death at the very young age of only 3 years old. Paris had a rare and very aggressive brain tumour called Atypical Teratoid Rhadboid Tumour (ATRT), which was first discovered at only 19 months old. You would have never thought that Paris had such a rare tumour the way she went on after the tragic news of ATRT was discovered. She still had the cheekiest but cutest smile you could ever see and if you were a stranger you wouldn’t even of knew that there was anything wrong as she just looked so happy and playful.

Paris was loved by so many people through out her 3 years most notably all her family from Mummy Sharon, Daddy Patrick, Nana Lil, Papa Sandy, Nana Martha, Step Brother Kalum, Step Sister Zoe, Uncle Derek, Uncle Kevin, Uncle Zander, Auntie Karen and Auntie Donna.

Paris's fight with ATRT was a brave and courageous one as I said touched the hearts of many people including a special friend called Michael Oliver who did so much for the family. Michael did a cycle to the west highland way with his friend Brian to raise funds for Paris. There was further fund raising for brave Paris done by many different people including two local bands who did a gig. So a big thank you goes out to everyone who helped in fund raising for Paris

The treatment Paris received for ATRT was intense and gruelling especially for such a small girl but as I said she thought so hard right to the end and at times even baffled doctors with her strength and courage.
ATRT made Paris's ability to walk and talk very difficult and it frustrated us all to see her struggle to do the things you would expect a 3 year old to do at this stage in life. But the things we did see her do brought a tear to all our eyes and will live with us all forever including her first few steps. Though the one thing ill never forget was the way she did the animal impressions for us all, but i'm sure the one thing everyone will mind best was how she didn’t like anyone building up her bricks as she just had to knock them all down.

Paris had to receive intense treatment including emergency surgery to remove fluid from the brain that was then followed by further surgery to remove the tumour as much as possible. Unfortunately, not all of the tumour was removed and so Paris had to receive numerous courses of chemotherapy. A shunt was also placed in Paris's head to help remove the build-up of fluid. At one stage we had encouraging news of the chemotherapy helping and shrinking the tumour but as ATRT is such an aggressive form of cancer, the tumour started growing again and her best chances of survival was going to be radiotherapy. As radiotherapy is so dangerous it cannot be given to a person under the age of 3 so we had to hope and pray that Paris would be able to make this magical age to receive this much needed treatment. We were all so full of hope and promise that she made it to 3 and could fight this tumour once and for all with radiotherapy, but unfortunately, after about 5 doses of radiotherapy the effects were too much for Paris and the doctors had to stop treatment. This was devastating for us all, as we knew her chances of survival were becoming slimmer every day. Stem cell treatment was going to be giving, but again, complications meant she couldn't receive it.

Around 30th November 2006, Paris took a turn for the worse and all the family were called to the hospital as doctors said she didn't have long left. Again she baffled doctors with her spirit and fight and fought so hard to stay with us all, but unfortunately, in the early hours of 4th December 2006 she lost the battle, and passed away peacefully in the arms of her mummy Sharon and daddy Patrick.

Paris will never, ever be forgotten as she was so well loved by so many people and touched the hearts of us all. We would like to say thank you to everyone who helped in fund raising, supporting the family of Paris and also to Sick Kids Hospital in Edinburgh for all their caring and hard work for Paris.

All our love, see you again soon Paris (or as mummy and daddy called you, Princess Paris)
Lots of love,
Uncle Zander xxx
